"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before man..." Matthew 5:14-16 As I was reading this, Brett immediately came to mind. What a light he was in the life of myself and many others. He was a light glowing for Christ and impacting in the lives of so many. I am forever grateful for all that Brett taught me during his time here on earth. He was a joyful inspiration and his passion for people and Truth has left a legacy that will last forever. I met Brett at North Central and was immediately drawn to his desire to seek and share Christ. I watched Brett learn his first worship song on his guitar, and saw the Lord use that as an amazing gift. The Hershey's taught me how to really play family games and to have a little bit of a liking for Penn State, even though I was always going to pick IU. Most of all, Brett and his family taught me what it was like to have a household that was cenetered around Christ, and I am forever grateful for God bringing them to Indiana for a few years.

Brett and I were part of a Greek Bible study called Tri-Gams. Greeks Glorifying God. It was a blast. We would laugh together with John Jackson about Tony Robbins motivational talks. We would pray for our houses to come to know Jesus. I also would play ball against Brett. We didn't like each other on the court because we were both so competitive. He would always drive and I would always foul him. It was a lot of fun. We also spent a summer together in Virginia Beach having good times playing volleyball. The best times, though, were going through the Word of God with him. He wanted to be biblical and evangelistic. I love the Hersheys. They have always been a blessing to my life. God bless.

Hersh is a Godly man to look up to. Only knowing him through frisbee games, and watching him from a far, I could so the work of God at full force. Seeing the reaction of everyone to Hersh's death, taught me that a Godly man will have an affect on all peoples life, even those that do not even know him. His death made me think of my life, and how people respected him is how I want to be respected. It's amazing how his death will impact men like myself to realize that worldly things are not forever, and that being a strong man of god is.
What a godly man...

I didn't know Brett really well, but I had the privilege of serving with him on the Crusade leadership team at IU. He had such a passion for reaching people for Christ, especially in the Greek system. Some of my best memories, though, are at Noon Prayer in the Bryan Room. I loved hearing Brett pray. He was so sincere and expectant. I can't recall if he ever lead worship for that, but I remember other times he led worship. You could see his heart and love for Christ. His love for people was evident in the way he treated everyone--as though they were already his friend, even if they'd never met. Brett's death is a tragedy for us, but, like so many others have said, not a tragedy for him. Brett is in the presence of the One he loved so well here on Earth, and now he's "Dancin' with the Angels." Thank you, Brett, for setting an amazing example of what a man of God is.

My Dear Child, You are a lamb of my flock, a child in my care. Let me lead you through this trying and painful time. Through quiet, green pastures I will lead you where you may rest and be refreshed. Along the banks of deep, cool waters I will guide you where you may drink deeply and be restored. Do not fear this valley of sorrow, for I will surely uphold you through it all. I will prepare for you a table of blessing where the enemy of despair cannot touch you. Your cup will overflow with the joy of my abiding presence. And when the valley has been crossed, I will bring you out on the other side and lead you up again into the mountains of my mercy. Trust me. I am your Shepherd, God
- I pray this for all of us who mourn and grieve at the loss (from this world) of Brett... -Heidi Schwachenwald
